12. Terapia fotodinâmica como adjunto ao tratamento periodontal não cirúrgico da periodontite crônica: revisão sistemática
Resumo
A periodontite crônica é uma doença infecciosa que acomete os tecidos de proteção e sustentação dos dentes. Os causadores são microrganismos presentes no biofilme bacteriano. O tratamento da periodontite é a raspagem e alisamento radicular (RAR). Seu efeito é limitado em sítios subgengivais de difícil acesso. Novas técnicas foram testadas como alternativas na redução das bactérias periodontopatogênicas. Uma delas é a terapia fotodinâmica (TFD), usando laser de baixa potência, irradiando substância fotossensível, que tem atividade bactericida contra periodontopatógenos, sem necessidade de terapia cirúrgica e sem envolvimento sistêmico. Este estudo avaliou através de revisão sistemática a eficácia da terapia fotodinâmica adjunta no tratamento da periodontite crônica. Mediante pesquisa realizada, foram encontrados 41 artigos. Desses,15 foram incluídos nesta revisão. De acordo com os resultados, oito autores obtiveram resultados positivos em relação a adjunção da TFD e sete obtiveram resultados negativos, sugerindo mais estudos para avaliar sua eficácia.

Abstract: Chronic periodontitis is an infectious disease that affects the tissue around the teeth. The causer are microorganisms in the bacterial biofilms. The periodontitis treatment is scaling and root planing (SRP). The effect is limited in subgingival sites difficult to access. New techniques were tested as alternatives in reducing periodontal bacteria, one is photodynamic therapy (PDT), using a low-power laser irradiating photosensitive substance that has bactericidal activity against periodontal pathogens without the need for surgical therapy and systemic involvement. This study evaluated, through a systematic review, the effectiveness of adjunctive photodynamic therapy in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. Through survey, they found 41 articles, 15 of them were included in this review. According to the results, eight authors were positive regarding the addition of PDT and seven negative results, suggesting further studies to evaluate the effectiveness.
